Assaulted Nurse

News reaching Yirimambo advocacy group indicates that an agric extension officer based in Lawra District has physically assaulted his wife to pulp.

The said wife who is a nurse at the Upper West Regional hospital sustained various degrees of injuries including an almost damaged left eye.

Our source indicates that the assault resulted from a misunderstanding between the couple.

The case has since been reported to the police for further investigation, Yirimambo is following the case & will update the house accordingly.

Section 1 of the Domestic Violence Act indicates that Domestic violence means engaging in the following within the context of a previous or existing domestic relationship: an act under the Criminal Code, 1960 (Act 29) which constitutes physical abuse, sexual abuse, economic abuse, and emotional, verbal or psychological abuse and … is likely to detract from another person’s dignity and worth as a human being.

The Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DoVVSU) of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) is reviewing the Domestic Violence Act 2007 (Act 732) and its Legislative Instrument (L.I 2237) to make them more respondent to changing times.

The Domestic Violence Act was introduced to help reduce and curb all act of social vices in the country and it was passed by Parliament on February 21, 2007 and enacted in May 2007, as Act 732 with a presidential assent.
