Local Ducks have become scarce lately in parts of Upper West Region due to the spiritual superstitions of rearing them.
It’s believed that a duck can protect a whole household by swallowing their souls at night.
Though it cannot be proven, several people assume it’s true and as a result have develop some fear for them when it comes to rearing ducks.
Two Foreign Ducks have been brought in Wa and checks have Revealed that a foreign duck goes for Ghc700 as at September, an animal lover in Nakore rears them and hopes to have more of them through reproduction.

Duck known as ‘Gbagba’ in Waali/ Dagaari is the common name for numerous species of waterfowl in the family Anatidae. Ducks are generally smaller and shorter-necked than swans and geese, which are members of the same family. Divided among several subfamilies, they are a form taxon; they do not represent a monophyletic group (the group of all descendants of a single common ancestral species), since swans and geese are not considered ducks. Ducks are mostly aquatic birds, and may be found in both fresh water and sea water.
