A Young man in his Youthful ages has committed suicide by hanging at Dokpong, a suburb of Wa Municipality in the Upper West Region.

The Incident was recorded today 12th June 2023 behind the Wa Sports Stadium and Police were called upon to convey the Body to the Wa Municipal Hospital Mortuary for safe Keeping whilst investigations are carried out.

Checks by Upper West Media Team Revealed that the late Young Man by Name Roulick Tambro hails from Nator in the Nadowli-Kaleo District.

Sources Revealed that the Deceased isn’t mentally stable and has attempted severally to end his life till the Unfortunate incident Occured.

Commiting Suicide has become rampant Amongst the Youth in Upper West Region According to the Mental Health Authority of Ghana Health Service, 17 people commited Suicide in the Year 2021 within the Upper West Region.

The Ghanaian situation is alarming! According to the Ghana Mental Health Authority, there were 797 recorded cases in 2018, the figure shot up to 880 in 2019 and slightly dropped to 777 in 2020, but shot up to an alarming 902 cases in 2021.

Sadly, these are only reported cases; several other cases are not reported for fear of stigma. The Ghana Mental Health Authority is gravely concerned about this worrying situation, and has made a clarion call for organisations and institutions to step up advocacy and institute measures to curb the growing trend. It is also crucial that we all join the advocacy to decriminalise suicide because the punitive law does not help solve the problem.
