About 27,880 out of 112, 000 bags of fertilizer have been received in the Sissala East District under planting for food and jobs policy of the governing New Patriotic Party.
During a briefing at the first assembly session Thursday 22 June, 2017 the DCE Hon. Karim Nanyua revealed that 600 bags of Maize seed and 125 bags of Rice seed were also received. 30,000 bags of subsidized fertilizer for farmers in general other than planting for food and jobs came into sissala east district, Newly posted extension staffs are 7 and six (6) out of the seven(7) posted extension agents have reported.
Will still have a deficit of 7 extension agents in the districts Mr. karim mentioned. The planting for food and jobs project is valued at two million, ninety six thousand, seventy one Ghana Cedis, fifty two Ghana pesewas (gh¢2,096,071.52).
The project will run for four years, while under the project, farmers will be supported with certified seed and fertilizer which cover the production of maize, sorghum, soya beans, and above all farmers will be linked to ready markets that can give them value for their farm produce. The major objective of the project is to increase farm yields and attract the youth to agriculture as a business and create jobs for the teaming unemployed youth.
