Rosewood Harvest on the Rise – Wa East DCE

The District Chief Executive of the Wa East District in the Upper West Region Hon. Jotie Moses, has lamented the rate at which trees are been hewed out of the district under the name of rosewood.
He said some people intentionally are felling fresh trees in the name of harvesting rosewood. “I have been having sleepless nights the spate of tree felling in our district particularly rosewood. I must say the volume of wood carted out of the district since the ban on transportation of rosewood was lifted has been a major concern to the District Security Committee. We have observed that some people hide behind the directive to secretly hewed down fresh ones” he fumed.
He made this disclosure on Friday, when he was delivering his speech at Loggu in Wa East District during this year’s Farmers Day Celebration.

The DCE, however appealed to the traditional authorities and Assembly Members to all put hands on deck to curb the menace which is currently devastating the district land’s vegetation. “I will like to use this medium to appeal to our traditional authorities, Hon. Assembly Members and other stakeholders to help monitor and report any fresh felling of trees.
The tree felling is gradually destroying our vegetative cover, with negative implications on soil fertility and water resources in medium and long terms” he stressed.
