The Upper West Regional Executive Committee of the ruling New Patriotic Party has on Tuesday afternoon September 18, 2018 suspended the Constituency Chairman for the Nadowli/Kaleo Constituency, Mr. Martin Andonye. His suspension came this afternoon after the Upper West Regional Disciplinary Committee of the NPP was petitioned by the 2016 parliamentary candidate of the Nadwoli Kaleo constituency, Elvis Botah who was unlawfully suspended by the now suspended Chairman.
“Following a petition by some members of the NPP in the Nadowli/Kaleo constituency, the Regional Executive Committee in accordance with Article 4(3) (a) of the constitution submitted the complaint to the regional Disciplinary Committee. In order to ensure fair and justice, the Regional Executive Committee in accordance with Article (3) (1) of the constitution, suspend you from holding your office as the constituency chairman of the Nadowli/Kaleo constituency, pending an inquiry into your conduct by the regional Disciplinary Committee. We are of the opinion that this action is in the best interest of the party and will lead to a proper resolution of the matter. We urge you to cooperate with the Disciplinary committee to ensure a speedy enquiry into this matter” the suspension letter stated.
In a press statement issued this afternoon, the committee noted that, the suspended Chairman has been disregarding party structures adding that they are not ready to tolerate such act any longer.
” The chairman’s continuous disregard for party structure and failure to consult the Regional Executive Committee in such important disciplinary matters can no longer be tolerated. By this letter, we are serving notice to the Chairman that, the purported revocation and subsequent appointment of other persons into their offices is in contravention of the NPP constitution. We as a Regional Executive committee hereby declare the revocation of such officers as illegal and arbitrary and therefore void” the statement noted.
The statement signed by the Upper West Regional Chaiman of the NPP, Mr. Saanibaye B. Kangbere further indicated all officers who were suspended by the said chairman still remain as party members and should work for the growth of the party.
Meanwhile, The 2016 Parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party for the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency, Mr. Elvis Banoemuleng Botah, was been suspended indefinitely some few weeks ago over what the constituency Disciplinary Committee described as gross constitutional breaches, gross misconduct, insubordination and disrespect of party elders on the part of the former aspirant.
However, the Regional Executives in a communique issued and signed by the Regional Communication Director, Bukari Ali earlier quashed the decision after some executives from the constituency signed a disclaimer revealing that the decision was taken unilaterally by the now suspended constituency chairman, Mr. Martin Andonye.
