The Governing Council of newly established Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) has paid a courtesy call on the Upper West Regional Minister Dr Hafiz Bin Salih.
The call was to formally introduce the governing council to the Minister and to reiterates its position to bring the needed development to the University. Speaking to the Regional Minister, the Interim Vice Chairman of the Council, Naa Puowele Karbo said the President did not only give the region a school but rewarded the region by naming the university after a true son of the region.
He recalled the role S.D. Dombo played in the political development of the country. Naa Karbo was hopeful that the University will transform lives of the people of Ghana as well as add up to the infrastructural development of the Upper West Region.
The Governing Council of the SDD-UBIDS is chaired by the President’s nominee Prof. Felix Dapare Dakora. Other members are the Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Philip Duku Osei, Vice Chairman Naa Puowele Karbo, Ms Ramatu Cynthia Yawson, Dr Philomena Efua Nyarko, Dr Joseph K. Wulifan and Mr Matthew D. Kyaglser. The rest are Mr Yeng Simon Bonsodong, Prof. John-Eudes A. Bakang, Ms Leticia Benewah Osafo-Addo, Mr Abledu Bright Sakyi and two other members from convocation and the alumni
The interim management of the university is led by Prof. Osei, Mr Emmanuel Baidoo, the Registrar, and Mr Abdulai Suglo, the Finance Officer. Upper West Regional Minister Dr Hafiz Bin Salih described the new university as a dream come true.
He was optimistic that the personalities that constitute the council will bring their vast experiences to bear on the activities of the university.
Dr Hafiz Bin Salih appealed to the council to fast track it activities to ensure the smooth running of the University as soon as practicable and pledged the support of the RCC to the Council. The Vice Chancellor Prof. Philip Duku Osei, said the council is ready and has taken up the responsibilities entrusted in them.
He indicated that plans are far advanced to do reorganization of some programmes in the faculties and through staff development to enhance the capacity of the administrators. The council was sworn in by the Minister of Education, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, two weeks ago. During the 25th graduation of the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale in November 2019, President Akufo-Addo announced that Cabinet had given approval for the Wa and the Navrongo campuses of the university to become autonomous universities.
Successful applicants for programmes advertised for Wa campus will now be admitted into S. D. Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD UBIDS) while successful applicants for programmes advertised for Navrongo Campus will now be admitted into C. K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT UTAS).
