Former President and Flagbearer of National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama has promised to construct the Tumu-Wa and Tumu-Bolga roads in his next government.
“I can promise you that, as a son of Tumu one of the first roads that would be constructed under my next Presidency will be the road connecting Tumu to Wa and Tumu to Bolga”
Addressing hundreds of NDC supporters and sympathizers during a tour to the Sissala area on September 3, 2020, Mr. Mahama said there is a need for the roads to be constructed because “a lot of agricultural activities take place in the area”.
The Flagbearer of the largest opposition party has however taken a swipe at the ruling government for “abandoning” the roads he said were under construction during his tenure as President.
“I know the issue with Tumu, and we started to do something about it. When I was President we started to reconstruct the road between Tumu and Bolga and between Bolga and Wa. Because we have a policy that there should be a connection between regional capitals with an all-weather road. During our period work was going on the road, as soon as we left office the work came to a standstill. The work on the road to Wa was also ongoing, as soon as we left office it came to a standstill” he said.
Mr. John Dramani Mahama has therefore promised to resume work on all the roads and complete them when he comes into power again
John Dramani Mahama’s tour together with his entourage in the area visited Wellembelle, Tumu, Sorbelle, Gwollu, and Fielmou.
He was in company with Mr. Joshua Akamba, NDC National Organizer; Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National Chairman; Prof. Joshua Alabi, Haruna Iddrisu, Minority Leader of Parliament; Calis Ceasar, former Presidential Staffer; Mohammed Issah Bataglia, NDC Sissala East Parliamentary candidate; Alhaji Sulemani Amidu, former Member of Parliament of Sissala West Constituency; Sulemani Alijata, former Member of Parliament of Sissala East Constituency among others.
