Sissala East: Armed robbers kill a farmer for not hearing ‘lie down’

A farm help ADUKO ATAMPURI aged 26 has been shot dead by suspected armed robbers on the Bandei – Vamboi road in the Sissala East Municipality.
The deceased who was among six others was killed while on their way to the farm to harvest maize of their employers in Bandei, a farming community in the Sissala East closed to Bugubelle.
According to the DSP Kumpe Gbele ,Sissala East Municipal Police commander “an Urvan bus with registration number AS 4796-09 reported at Bugubelle station that on same day at about 0300 hours, whilst he was driving from Tumu to Wa with passengers on board on reaching a spot between Bendei and Vamboi four masked armed robbers wielding a gun robbed the passengers of unspecified sum of money and mobile phones”.
He added that “In the course,six farmers who were walking from Bandei township to Vamboi direction came to the scene and when the robbers ordered them to lie they attempted to run away and the robbers fired at them. One male adult among the farmers by name Aduko Atampuri, age 26 sustained injuries on the abdomen” .
The patrol team rushed to the scene but the suspects fled on two motor bikes into the bush before the arrival of the team. The victim was rushed to Tumu hospital but died shortly on arrival. The body of deceased deposited for post mortem examination.
Speaking with the Radford News some of the other victims said they were trekking to the farm this dawn and met the scene where they saw an Urvan bus with passengers lying in the middle of the road on their bellies while three armed men each with a torchlight and guns issued instructions they could neither hear nor understand.
Narrating further, they said upon seeing the victims, the armed men flashed the torchlight on them and was communicating to them but they didn’t understand what was going on, so they took to their heels but unfortunately one of them was shot at whilst the rest of us escaped to the bush helter skelter”.
The remains of the deceased have been transported to his hometown at Sumbrungu in the Upper East region according to the leader who said “even though we come to this area to work every year, but this is strange and we cannot continue the harvest”.
Since 2019 and the arrival of the military presence in the Sissala East, this is the first time armed men have shot and killed a person. Meanwhile the Police command has warned all drivers transporting passengers to Wa and Bolga and other areas to ensure there is Police presence or risk being arrested.
