Continuing Students of UBIDS Go Wild Over High Fees

Simon Diedong Dombo University

Students of Simon Diedong Dombo University for Business and Integrated Development Studies(SDD-UBIDS) in Wa Upper West Region have grown wild over what they referred to as deliberate ‘balooning’ of fees by management.

“THE PURSE OF THE INNOCENT STUDENTS

It has always been an awesome interest of a whole region to seek for autonomy regarding to the swift changes in courses at then UDS Wa-Campus now SDD-UBIDS.

Years of fights saw the positive outcome of the citizens cry as The President of the Republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo- Addo declared the institution autonomous.

Simon Diedong Dombo- University for business and integrated development studies is enrolling its first badge of Student for 2020/2021 academic year. The school is said to be expecting not less than 5,000 students “not specified”.

But the turn out of this autonomy is creating tension in some student and their families. This all come from the point where fees for 2020/2021 academic year for continuing students is more than that of Freshers. Is understandable if fresher’s pay more or less than continues students but to the extend of continuing students paying more than before is unexpected.

The school management has released three different set of school fees.

Firstly, the student body was to pay 1,510, and later to 1220, this later got deleted from the school website and 1,510 was sent to be paid.

Earlier 12th January,2021, a different school fees was released Insisting on students paying 1,609 which has been increased from the previous fees released. The school fees here is what is expected to be paid by L200 – L400 education students.

The question is, is the school not aware of the hardship in this pandemic era?

Is the school trying to milk parents and guardians?

Why the sudden increase in fees when it should be reduced ?

Are students not part of covid 19 relief package?

Parents and guardians are worried for the increments of fees and Calls for the Government to intervene.

There’s no pleasure in killing dreams of innocents when it could be hurriedly be a source of happiness to them.

We are knocking on doors of the management body to have human sympathy on the innocent students.

Thank you.
