Amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic, President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo closed all borders in March preventing people from visiting the country. Some Burkinabes have been arrested by the Ghana Immigration Service Upper West Division for illegally coming into the country via the Ga route in the Wa West District of Upper West Region.
“BURKINABES BUSTED AT THE GA INLAND POST, UWR
At about 1107HRS, the vigilant Immigration Officials on duty at the Ga inland checkpoint busted five Burkinabes on board a sprinter bus with registration number GT 4893-17 destined for Wenchi in the Brong Ahafo Region for farming activities. Preliminary investigations revealed that the migrants sneaked into Ghana through an unapproved route around the Leo enclave bordering neighbouring Burkina Faso.
The ages of the busted irregular migrants ranged between 26 and 34 years. It’s part of our operational functions on undocumented or prohibited migration, coupled with the Presidential directive on land borders closure since March 2020, the Five (05) Burkinabes were sent back to their home country, Burkina FASO.
