Wa East: Manwe in Sanitation Crisis

D.C.E for Wa East, Mr. Moses Jotie

One community in the Wa East District of the Upper West Region that is seriously grabbling with a pungent overwhelming practice of open defecation is Manwe.

Residents of Manwe say the community is in sanitation crisis due to an overwhelming practice of open defecation in the community.

An opinion leader, Mr. Yakubu Issahaku, said he was born in Manwe and have lived there all his life and there have never been a single toilet facility built in the community. He said that has left residents to one choice, namely, open defecation. The UN Sustainable development goal 6 places an obligation on all signatory countries to achieve the STOP OPEN DEFECATION status by 2030, ten years from today. It is disheartening, however, the overwhelming practice of open defecation that is presently on-going in most parts of Ghana.

Meaning while another resident channel his grievance, he said that is what is useful to the illiterate majority population of the Upper West Region and would truly help them to understand the nature of politics and make better political choices. He says most of the radio stations in the Upper West region do their broadcasting in the English language, which might be stylish but without true relevance in a region where majority of the people that really matter do not speak English language.

Manwe is Located in the Wa East District of Upper West Region with Mr. Moses Jotie as the D.C.E and Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw as the Member of Parliament for the Area.
