Sissala East: 1977 Year Group of Kanton SHS Gifts Alma Mata a Borehole

The Donation Took Place in Tumu

The 1972-77 year group of the Now Kanton Senior High School in Tumu has handed over a new borehole to the school for use.


There was a short but very colorful ceremony organized to commission this gesture and was hosted in the premises of the school in Tumu, the Municipal Capital of Sisaala East in the Upper West Region of Ghana.

The gesture was geared towards augmenting the water sources of the school as the student population has seen tremendous increment in recent times.
In attendance at the commissioning ceremony were personalities such as, the Eminent paramount chief of Tumu Traditional area Kuoro Richard Babini Kanton IV who happens to be part of the year group, a divisional chief Kong Kuoro Zakaria Savei, the PTA chairman Mr Bukari Suleman, the President of Kanton Senior High School old boys Association(KOSA) Hon.Salifu Naliwie Baluwie, the Current head teacher of the school also an old student, Mr. Mohammed Luriwie Kanton, other staff of the school, representatives of the students body, some old students representatives.
In a welcome address by the head teacher, he started by expressing his sincerest gratitude for the kind gesture and did disclose that, making the borehole a hand pump will rescue them from water shortage amidst the intermittent power outages couple with inability to pump water electronically. He also admonished on the old students to have a formidable and robust body since that will enable them together help propel the school’s development to the dream’s stage. He concluded by applauding the contributors of the gesture once again as this comes as a surprise to all since this batch of old students should be in retirement by now and would be struggling with their merger savings.
The president of KOSA Mr.Salifu Naliwie Baluwie in his speech and on behalf all old students expressed his heart felt appreciation for the donation especially the timing of the donation. He however, bemoaned the lackadaisical and unwilling attitude of old students to come together and contribute their quota to their alma mater unlike what others do. He on this note, charged old students to come on board and attitudinally claim ownership of the school by championing the developmental needs of the school as government alone cannot achieve this.

On behalf of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), the chairman who is also the Sisaala East Municipal National Health Insurance Scheme (NIHS) Manager in the person of, Mr.Bukari Suleman expressed his profound gratitude for the gesture by the 1972-77 year group as he sees it as a pace setting for the other year groups to emulate and together the transform the school. He however charged the students body to be academic ambassadors and not indulge in indiscipline acts that can get them expelled from the school.
Representing the 1972-77 year group was the Tumu Kuoro Richard Babini Kanton IV who is his short speech admonished the school to inculcate maintenance culture into their ways of handling infrastructure as it will lead to sustainability and thus will in the end encourage others to donate to their course. He expressed for how far the school’s Maths and Science quiz representatives have gone and pledge a handsome reward to the school should they just be represented at the national level. He was however thankful to the staff of the school and admonished the keep up the passion and commitment in handling the school.
All gathered at the ceremony moved in a procession to the newly drilled borehole, where officially, it was commissioned and handed over to the school for use.
The Kong chief, Kuoro Zakaria Savei applauded all and sundry who out of busy their schedule made it to the short ceremony and once again expressed special appreciation to the contributors of the gesture.
