Former MP For Sissala West Reported Dead

Late Hon. Haruna Bayirga

It has been reported that Honourable Haruna Bayirga, a former Member of Parliament for the Sissala West Constituency in the Upper West Region of Ghana has passed on at 69.

According to reports by Gwollu FM, the former legislator passed on at the Ga East Municipal hospital at Kwabenya, Accra at around 10:20am today, December 11, 2021.

The late Hon. Haruna Bayirga was a two time Member of Parliament for Sissala West. He became the Member of Parliament for the Sissala West Constituency after he contested and won as an independent candidate in 2004 general elections.

In the 2004 general elections, he won with a total of 4,788 votes making a percentage of 30.60% of the total votes cast.

His constituency was a part of the only two constituencies won by the People’s National Convention in the Upper West Region in the 2004 Ghanaian general elections.

The People’s National Convention had won a total of 4 parliamentary representation out of a total 230 seats in the 4th parliament of the 4th republic of Ghana.

In 2008, he contested again for the seat but as a candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC) and won with a total of 5,950 votes.

During the party’s delegates congress in 2012, the late Hon. Haruna Bayirga was declared unopposed but he was unseated by the NDC’s candidate, Honourable Amin Amidu Suleman.
