Former Asante Kotoko and Black Stars legend Malik Jabir was moved to tears during an emotional visit to the players and technical team of Wa Power Sporting Club, a Division One side in the Upper West Region.

Jabir expressed deep concern over the poor state of sporting infrastructure at the Wa Malik Jabir Stadium, a facility named in his honour but still lacking basic standards.

Speaking to players, the celebrated former captain, team manager, CEO, and board member of Asante Kotoko said he had returned home because he felt a personal responsibility to uplift football in the region.

“I have done everything in Kotoko. I played, became captain, team manager, CEO, and board member. I have served the Black Stars as captain and technical director. But I asked myself—what have I done for my own region?
” he said.
Jabir stated that the condition of the stadium pushed him to take action. He announced plans to formally petition authorities to renovate the facility and upgrade it to a standard befitting young talents in the region.

He further revealed that he is prepared to resign from his current role as technical director to return home and support the club’s development.

“If you hear that I have resigned, you will be the first to know. I want to come down and help you. I don’t want to die with all the knowledge I have. I want to pass it on,” he said.

Jabir encouraged the players to remain disciplined, listen to their coaches, and stay focused on their development. He also shared plans to donate his personal books to create a mini football library for the team.
He ended his interaction by presenting three footballs to the club to support their training activities.

Wa Power Sporting Club expressed appreciation for his gesture and commitment to improving football development in the region.

What a powerful and moving story. Malik Jabir’s humility, passion, and deep sense of responsibility toward his home region truly shine through. It is rare to see a legend of his calibre—someone who has achieved so much for club and country—return with such sincerity, emotion, and commitment to uplift the next generation.

His willingness to petition for the renovation of the stadium, share his knowledge, resign from his post if needed, and even start with small but meaningful gestures like donating footballs and creating a mini-library shows the heart of a true leader.
