Naa Mac Adam Banda, the Chief of Bakpong in the Ga Traditional Area, has strongly criticized the Wa West District Assembly (WWDA) for what he describes as over two decades of total neglect of the Ga community in the district.

According to the chief, the community has not benefited any meaningful development project from the Assembly since the creation of the Wa West District in 2004, raising serious concerns about its recognition within the district.

“From 2004 to 2026, 22 years, and we have not seen a single block from the [Wa West] District Assembly. 22 years, you (WWDA) have done nothing in Ga. I don’t think that speaks well of you,” he lamented.

Naa Adam Banda, who previously served as District Chief Executive for Wa during the administration of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, expressed deep frustration over what he described as a persistent lack of commitment from successive district leaders to his community.

“Several District Chief Executives have come and gone, yet not a single development project has been initiated by the Assembly in Ga,” he observed, questioning whether the community is truly considered part of the district.

He further noted that despite the contributions of the Ga Area Council toward the growth of the district, the Assembly has failed to reciprocate the efforts with tangible development initiatives.

“I don’t think any Area Council contributes revenue to the Assembly more than our area, and yet the Ga Area Council [building] is nothing to write home about,” he asserted.

These remarks were made during a community durbar held in Ga on Wednesday, April 16, 2026. As part of the durbar, the community handed over a self-help completed two-room accommodation to the Ga Health Centre.

Naa Banda, who served as project manager for the community-initiated nurses’ quarters, revealed that attempts to get support for the project from the WWDA through the immediate past DCE, Vida Diorotey, proved futile.

“There was a meeting with the former DCE, Vida, where we requested for support for this project and she told us that the Assembly has no money. So, she left office without giving any support for the execution of this project.”

The former Wa DCE described the situation as unacceptable, stressing that after two decades, the continued absence of development in Ga cannot be justified. While acknowledging the difficulties assemblies go through sometimes, he insists it is important for the WWDA to do something for the community to make residents feel belonging.

He therefore called on the current leadership of the WWDA to take urgent steps to address the neglect and ensure that the Ga community receives its fair share of development.

Naa Adam Banda also used the opportunity to thank the Wa West MP, Peter Lanchene Toobu, for supporting the execution of the staff accommodation with over 40,000 cedis and many other social interventions he is making in the area. He said if previous MPs in the area had shown support like Hon. Lanchene is doing, Ga would have been a better developed community.
