The Wa High Court has announced that it will deliver its judgment this Wednesday, 29th April 2026 in the appeal case of Abdul-Rashid Ahmed, popularly known as Rashid Anaata.
Anaata, a former well-known Master of Ceremonies (MC) in Wa—particularly recognized for hosting Islamic wedding ceremonies—is appealing both his conviction and sentence for defilement involving multiple underage schoolgirls within the Wa Municipality.
In October 2023, the Wa Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Mr. Jonathan Avogo, found Anaata guilty on several counts of defilement under Section 101 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The court ruled that he had engaged in unlawful carnal knowledge of minors under the age of 16.
The upcoming High Court ruling is expected to determine whether the conviction and sentence will be upheld or overturned.
