Nadowli โ April 29, 2026 โ What was meant to be a routine relocation exercise descended into chaos this morning at the Nadowli Area Council, as hundreds of traders fought over portions of land.
The confusion began around 10:30 am when news spread that traders would be temporarily relocated to the Area Council premises. This move is intended to clear the way for the construction of the much-anticipated 24-Hour Economy Market, a flagship project aimed at boosting local trade.
However, instead of orderly registration, the scene turned violent. Traders, fearing they would miss out on prime spots, began pegging makeshift boundaries and clashing with each other. Stalls were torn down, and shouting matches quickly escalated into physical confrontations.
Amidst the pandemonium, the Assemblyman for the area, Hon. Braima Yakubu, rushed to the scene. Using dialogue , he managed to restore relative calm.
“Stop the demarcation immediately,” Hon. Yakubu ordered. “No one should be allocating land here today. We are waiting for the official taskforce from the assembly to handle the process fairly. Go back to your businesses and hold on.”
Following his intervention, the traders dispersed but remained agitated. The Assemblyman has since called for calm while he meets with assembly officials to expedite the relocation plan and prevent further violence.
