Police visibility has become high in Funsi, the capital of Wa East District after Three individuals were reported dead.
The Upper West Regional Commander DCOP Mr. Francis Yiribaare and his Team have been present to restore Calm, So Far 34 People have been Arrested in line with the Disputes and Death Tally.

POLICE ARREST 34 SUSPECTS IN CONNECTION WITH FUNSI SHOOTING INCIDENT; WEAPONS AND EXHIBITS RETRIEVED
24TH MAY, 2026
- The Upper West Regional Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the Police are actively investigating a shooting incident connected to the ongoing chieftaincy dispute in Funsi, Wa East District, which resulted in the deaths of three young men.
- On the night of 22nd May 2026, the Funsi Police received information that two persons had been shot and killed at the Gbelonosi section of Funsi. Police officers immediately proceeded to the scene and confirmed the deaths of Fufulu Nandugu, aged 37, and Yussif Samahan, aged 22. During subsequent police operations and investigations, a third victim, Amadu Lukman, aged 20, was also found dead in the community.
- A reinforcement team comprising the Regional Commander DCOP Francis Yiribaare visited the affected community to support ongoing investigations and maintain law and order.
- So far, thirty-four (34) suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident. Police also retrieved one shotgun, bow and arrows, gunpowder, spent cartridges, talisman-embedded smocks, and a medallion believed to be central to the chieftaincy tensions between the rival gates. All suspects and exhibits have since been conveyed to Wa to assist with further investigations.
- The Police Administration extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and assures the public of its commitment to bringing all persons responsible for the disturbance to justice.
- The Regional Police Command is also appealing to residents and all stakeholders to remain calm, avoid acts of reprisal, and cooperate with the Police by providing credible information to support investigations.
- Meanwhile, intensified patrols and other security measures have been deployed within the community to maintain peace and security.
