Charia youth on Friday, June 12, reportedly stormed the premises of Wa Ahmadiyya Senior High School (Wa-Amass) following a reported dispute involving some students and members of the school’s cadet corps, leading to a violent confrontation, injuries, and police intervention.

The incident follows the return of some final-year students who were earlier suspended from campus over alleged misconduct after they were reported by cadet members. The students were subsequently sanctioned by the school authorities.

Reports indicate that upon returning to campus to write their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), some of the affected students allegedly threatened to attack the cadet members they accused of reporting them.

The situation later escalated when some cadet students were attacked, with some reportedly sustaining cutlass wounds while others fled for their safety.

The attackers are alleged to have taken cutlasses from the school’s storeroom before targeting the cadet members.

A targeted cadet student is said to have informed friends in Charia, who later went to the school following the incident. Their arrival reportedly led to a confrontation with the students accused of attacking the cadet members.

A committee constituted to investigate the matter has since recommended that all students who have completed their WASSCE examinations vacate the school premises immediately.

The Ghana Police Service has arrested some of the students in connection with the incident, while several students have reportedly left the school and returned home as investigations continue.
