The Upper West Regional Director of Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) Mr. Sunkpal Kelvin has reiterated that it won’t be possible to act on a letter copied to his Office by Upper West Media Team calling for unapproved Drinks to be seized and distributors Investigated.
It can be recalled that on Friday, 22nd of May 2026, letters were given out to four institutions in the Upper West Region including the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council, Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) about the Influx of unapproved soft drinks in Wa without GRA Stamps and FDA Numbers, these Drinks included Lacasera Apple Drink and Malta Guinness produced in Nigeria. There are suspicions that the drinks are brought into the Country through Unapproved routes.

Samples of the Drinks were sent to the Office of the FDA in Upper West Region however there was a feedback by the Director on the 22nd of May 2026 indicating that he cannot act upon the tip off, he directed the media to instead, engage the headquarters in writing for the unapproved Drinks to be investigated.
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) have gone out to seize some Undocumented drinks from the market however the Ghana Standards Authority, Upper West Regional Coordinating Council (UWRCC), Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) are yet to take appropriate actions.
