The Wa Central Elections Committee of the National Democratic Congress has been petitioned (NDC) to investigate and disqualify two candidates contesting in the upcoming polling station elections at the Charia Central Mosque Polling Station in the Wa Central constituency.
The Petitioner, Mr. Paul Domanumbu alleged that, Mr. Shahidu Naah and Mr. Abdulai Abubakari are ineligible to contest the branch executive over their failure to pay the mandatory party dues from January 2023 till date.
In the petition dated June 18, 2026, Mr. Domanumbu further accused the two aspirants of impersonation and misrepresentation, alleging that they endorsed an executive member nomination form using positions they do not currently hold within the party’s branch structure.
According to Mr. Paul, such conduct undermines the integrity of the party’s internal electoral process and constitutes a breach of electoral guidelines and code of conduct.
Meanwhile, in an interview with W93.5 FM’s, Abubakar Sidik, one of the accused candidates, Mr. Shahidu Naah, admitted that he and Mr. Abdulai Abubakari endorsed the candidate’s nomination form using executive positions they do not officially occupy.
However, he explained that both of them are aspiring for those positions and inadvertently failed to indicate on the nomination form that they were aspirants rather than substantive office holders.
However, Mr. Naah disclosed that, the nomination form required endorsers to state their positions within the polling station executive structure.
He maintained that they used the positions they are contesting for when endorsing the form but did not clearly indicate their aspirant status, a matter that has become central to the petition.
Moreso, Mr. Paul (the Petitioner) is also seeking the disqualification of Mr. Naah Issahaku, whose nomination form was endorsed by the two individuals.
Mr. Domanumbu argues that if the allegations are upheld, the endorsers lacked the authority to validate another candidate’s nomination.
He indicated that, copies of the petition have been forwarded to the NDC Regional Monitoring Team, the Member of Parliament for Wa Central, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Wa Municipal Assembly and the Upper West Regional Council of Elders.
The Election Committee is yet to publicly comment on the matter.
This petition comes as the NDC prepares for its internal polling station elections, a key exercise aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots structures ahead of future electoral activities.
