The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper West Region has successfully concluded the vetting process for aspirants vying for various regional executive positions, setting the stage for what promises to be a highly competitive and transparent election. A total of 28 candidates have been cleared to contest in the upcoming regional leadership elections, with the contest encompassing 11 key positions.

The vetting exercise, conducted over the weekend, was described as rigorous yet smooth by Isaac Alitu, the National Representative on the Vetting Committee. Alitu emphasized that all aspirants passed the vetting process without any objections or complaints, underscoring the transparency of the process. He also assured party members and supporters that the committee remains committed to a free, fair, and impartial electoral process, encouraging candidates to conduct clean campaigns.

Echoing calls for unity and focus on party development, Eric Ntori, the NPP’s Director of ICT, urged aspirants to eschew personal attacks and instead channel their energies into constructive campaigns that bolster the party’s growth.

Among the most anticipated contests is the race for the Upper West Regional Chairmanship, where Abdul-Aziz Abdul Rahman faces Alhaji Alaska B. Kanton, a contest that is expected to draw significant attention from party supporters and observers alike. The race for the First Vice Chairperson will feature Majeed Limann, Thaddeus Arlam Aasoglenang, and Alhaji Kamara Karim Tankari, while the Second Vice Chairperson race involves Philip Yaw Braimah and Wontina Bamatu.

Other key positions include the Regional Secretary, with Tanko Daniel Dawda, Agape Kanyiri Damuah, and Salia Dawuda Kaleo vying for the role. The battle for Assistant Regional Secretary features Yussif Alhassan and Sulemani Benin, while the Regional Treasurer contest will see Alhassan Suleman and James Kpir-Taatey Saatiri competing for the seat.

The Regional Organizer race is expected to be particularly competitive, attracting four aspirants: Seidu Issahaku Sulemana, Mustapha Ibrahim Dimah, Mohammed Saana Hamidu, and Amadu Adama. For the Regional Communications Director, Ahmed Nana Sadat and Bukari Ali are the front-runners.

The contest for Regional Youth Organizer has also garnered significant interest, with Dodoo Yussif Sadat, Haki Insah, Suleman Yahaya, and Amidu Reedwan seeking delegates’ support. Additionally, Minata Mumuni and Dery Nancy Anyuo will vie for the position of Regional Women’s Organizer.

As the party prepares for the elections, the focus remains on fostering unity, healthy competition, and transparent processes that will strengthen the NPP’s foothold in the Upper West Region. The elections are widely viewed as a critical step towards consolidating the party’s leadership and preparing for future electoral challenges.
