Wa: Police Arrest Motorbike Theft syndicate; recover 17 Suspected Stolen Motorbikes

In a Letter Dated 23rd July 2026 and signed by DCOP Mr. Francis Yiribaare, Police have arrested Motorbike theft syndicate in Wa, the Capital of Upper West Region and recovered 17 motorbikes suspected to have been stolen.

POLICE ARREST MOTORBIKE THEFT SYNDICATE; RECOVER 17-SUSPECTED STOLEN MOTORBIKES IN WA MUNICIPALITY

The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested a group of suspects involved in a motorbike theft within the region. The Command has also recovered seventeen (17) motorbikes stolen from various locations within the Wa Municipality and other parts of the region.

The operation commenced following a report made on July 11, 2026 by a victim that, her black Luojia motorbike, registration number M-21-UW 3512, she parked at the Ghana National Fire Service premises in Jirapa, was stolen. The victim shared details of the stolen motorbike widely with friends and the Police.

Acting swiftly on intelligence, police officers arrested Nasiru Muftawu at Loho in possession of the stolen motorbike. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to stealing the motorbike and was subsequently taken into custody to assist with investigations.

Further intelligence-led operations resulted in the arrest of Basit Muftawu alias Posey (19 years), Issahaku Maruf alias Katel (22 years), and Mohammed Ali alias Geewaa (18 years). Additional exhibits connected to the offences were recovered from Rashid Kankan (20 years), Mutala Rashad (20 years), and Haruna Hamdan alias DJ (20 years).

The sustained investigations subsequently led to the recovery of sixteen (16) more motorbikes stolen from UBIDS, Chakor, and Glamon all within the Wa Municipality.

The suspects were arraigned before the Wa Circuit Court and remanded into police custody, and are scheduled to reappear before the court on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

The Regional Police Command appeals to members of the public who have lost their motorbikes to report to the Wa District Police Headquarters with valid ownership documents for identification and retrieval of their motorbikes.
