The Regional Police Command has apprehended an armed robbery syndicate operating in parts of the Wa West District and Wa Municipality reported in a Letter Dated 11th – August – 2026

  1. The Upper West Regional Police Command has crackdown an armed robbery syndicate operating in parts of the Wa West District and Wa Municipality, following months of intelligence-led coordinated operation, resulting in the arrest of six suspects.
  2. The operation followed an emerging trend of armed robbery incidents in which victims were attacked, wounded with machetes and forced to disclose their Mobile Money (MoMo) Personal Identification Numbers (PINs), which were then used to transfer money from their accounts to the robbers MoMo account.
  3. The six (6) suspects including the deceased are:

Amadu Moro, 35 years

Adama Yussif, 40 years

Nasiru Abdul Rahman, 52 years (Deceased)

Iddrissu Adama, 35 years

Korika Issaka, 20 years

Zakaria Brigi, 21 years

  1. Preliminary investigations indicate that Adama Yussif, Amadu Moro and the deceased Nasiru Abdul Rahman, key members of the gang are linked to robbery incidents at:

  1. Investigations have so far established that approximately GH 22,070 cash was robbed from victims, while an additional GH 3,274 was siphoned through MoMo accounts of their victim. The Police have also retrieved seven mobile phones from the suspects, which are being subjected to further examination as part of the ongoing investigations.
  2. During the operation, suspect Nasiru Abdul Rahman sustained injuries and died at the Upper West Regional Hospital upon arrival. The body has since been deposited at same Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
  3. Two other suspects connected to the robbery syndicate are currently at large and efforts are intensified to locate and arrest them.

They are:

Haruna, 30 years, who serves as the armourer of the gang; and Amadu Mahamudu, 24 years, son of the deceased suspect. Five were arrested on Saturday, August 8, 2026

  1. The Upper West Regional Command urges residents, particularly those in communities affected by recent robbery incidents, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the Police. The Police further appeal to the public to cooperate with investigators by providing credible information that could assist in locating the two wanted suspects and preventing further criminal activities.
