Regional Minister Honours Four Police Officers for Exceptional Bravery in Fight Against Armed Robbery in Wa

Wa, September 7, 2026 — Four police officers of the Upper West Regional Police Command have been honoured by the Upper West Regional Minister for their exceptional courage, commitment and professionalism in disrupting a notorious armed robbery syndicate operating within the Wa West and Wa Municipality areas.

The Regional Police Commander DCOP Mr Francis briefed on the operations conducted on 8th and 10th of August, 2026 and highlighted the bravery of these galant officers.

The officers are G/Sgt. Mortsi Kwashie Divine, D/Sgt. Salifu Ishmael Aketisiwin, G/Cpl. Ernest Ameyaw Akunfi, and G/Cpl. John Bekaar Vitus.

The officers played key roles in a coordinated, intelligence-led operation that disrupted the activities of the syndicate, which had been linked to a series of violent armed robbery attacks at Nyoli, Kulmasa, Ga, Kpenateng, Kulkpara, Dapoha, Pissi, Gadi and Chogsia, among other areas.

Their operations significantly weakened the activities of the group and brought considerable relief to residents, while contributing to efforts by the Police and other security agencies to restore confidence and enhance security within the affected communities.

Recognising their exceptional performance, the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Management Board promoted the four officers to their next ranks at a special ceremony at the Police Headquarters on 12 August 2026.

The Regional Minister Hon. Charles Lwanga Pozuing Esq. subsequently presented the officers with an Award of Honour in recognition of their distinguished commitment, courage and professionalism, following a decision by the Upper West Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to further honour and motivate them.

The recognition also serves as an encouragement to other security personnel to demonstrate dedication, courage and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

The Regional Police Command expressed appreciation to the Regional Minister and REGSEC for the recognition, describing it as a significant morale booster for the officers and the wider security community.

The honour is expected to inspire continued collaboration among the security agencies and reinforce the collective resolve to safeguard lives and property and sustain a peaceful and secure environment for the socio-economic development of the Upper West Region.
