On Monday, 21st of September 2026, Several Shop Owners In Bamahu spoke with Upper West Media Team after their Shops were Earmarked for Demolition by the Department of Urban Roads to facilitate the construction of a Dual Carriage Road from Wa JJ Rawlings High Street to University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS).

Mr. Suleman, an Affected Shop Owner indicated that the Project is a welcoming one but their businesses are also affected, he called for the Assembly and Stakeholders involved to compensate them in order for their businesses to continue thriving after demolition of their structures.

Madam Wasila, a Business women selling fruits along the road was also worried about the Two weeks deadline given for their businesses to be relocated stressing that, the short timelines without comprehension will Compel them to stay at home without jobs.

“It’s a good project but we’ll be stranded so we need compensation to stay in Business”

The Wa-Sawla-Wenchi Road Project was Awarded by President Mahama in December 2025 after a Sod Cutting was healed earlier in November that year, the over 200km road project stretching into three Regions is expected to improve economic activities in those regions by paving a way for goods to be transported.

The Wa-Sawla-Wenchi Road Project was awarded to several contractors including MESSRS Maripoma Ltd who has begun working on gutters.
