The St. Theresa Catholic Hospital in Nandom is taking steps to bridge the distance barrier to quality healthcare by bringing specialist medical services closer to residents of Nandom Municipality and surrounding districts.
Under the leadership of the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Mark Padmore Awudi, the hospital is hosting a Urology and General Surgery Outreach Programme, aimed at providing specialist consultation and surgical services to patients with a range of urological and general surgical conditions.
The initiative is expected to benefit residents of Nandom, Lawra Municipality, Lambussie District, Jirapa Municipality and other adjoining communities, who may otherwise have to travel long distances to access specialist care.
According to the hospital, conditions to be assessed during the outreach include prostate enlargement, undescended testis, scrotal swellings, varicocele, hydrocele, bedwetting, bloody urine, hernias, lumps and body swellings, ganglion and breast lumps, among others.
The hospital has indicated that screening and specialist consultations are ongoing every Monday to Friday until October 21, 2026, at the General Out-Patient Department (OPD).
Potential clients should note that the designated consultation hours are 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., while the scheduled surgery period is from October 4 to October 23, 2026.
The outreach forms part of efforts by the hospital to make specialist healthcare more accessible to people in the area by reducing the need for patients to travel regional capital or over long distances for specialised medical attention.
The hospital is also encouraging members of the public with any of the listed conditions, or those who require specialist assessment, to take advantage of the programme within the stated period.
Residents are therefore encouraged not to miss the opportunity to access specialist urology and general surgery services closer to home.
