A former Wa Central Parliamentary candidate of Convention people’s Party (CPP) Mr. Issahaque Suleman popularly known as Sulega has called for compensation of persons that had their buildings Demolished along the Wa Bamahu Stretch of the Hilla Liman Highway by Maripoma Company for a Road Project.
Speaking to Upper West Media Team on 1st November 2026, He noted that It was necessary by Law to compensate the affected person through the Wa Metropolitan Assembly and the contractor, to assist the affected persons in relocating to befitting places to continue with their businesses.
He noted that the Affected Persons weren’t cautioned by the Assembly before putting up their buildings.
“If you get into Bamahu enclaves, you’ll notice that some Houses were pulled down, if the government was mindful that this road was going to go into dual Carriageway then those who were putting up their buildings in those areas could have been Cautioned in one way or the other but they haven’t been..”
Mr. Issahaque Suleman (Sulega) urged the Assembly to provide Affected persons with Relocation packages
“I think the Government is doing well on the road sector most especially the Wa – Tumu – Bolga road and many other trunk roads but the Mayor or the Municipal Assembly together with the lands commission, Ghana High way Authority and the contractor should have ensured that atleast they get some relocation packages for the affected people. Such packages should have been given before the demolition exercise.”
He discouraged further demolition till affected persons are compensated.
“Any other demolition exercise would have to be halted till relocation packages are provided for affected Persons”
He challenged the narrative that Compensations are only for people with permits.
“Relocation packages has nothing to do with Building Permits, the package is mostly a
part of the contract sum.”
Mr Issahaque Suleman made reference to ongoing projects in Accra and how affected persons strived to get what was due them.
“Accra to Offankor Road Project was delayed because of Court Cases, Some Owners of Properties had to take the Contractor to Court, these court cases had to be dealt with and some compensations were paid before construction continued.”
