The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has reviewed the curfew hours imposed on Hamile Township and its environs in the Lambussie District of the Upper West Region, reducing the restriction period to between 10:00 pm and 4:00 am.

The revised curfew takes effect from Thursday, November 5, 2026, following a review undertaken on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument.

The decision follows an appeal by the Member of Parliament for Lambussie, Hon. Prof. Titus Kofi Beyuo, through a parliamentary briefing on Thursday, November 5, 2026, calling for a review of the earlier curfew hours in the wake of recent disturbances in the border community.

Meanwhile, the Hamile Border has been reopened, with operations resuming today, Thursday, November 5, 2026. The reopening is expected to restore cross-border activities and ease some of the disruptions experienced by traders, transport operators and other residents following the recent disturbances and imposition of the curfew.

The review of the curfew is also expected to ease some of the difficulties residents and businesses have been experiencing while maintaining security measures to prevent further disturbances and restore calm in the area.

In a statement announcing the revised hours, the government urged chiefs, opinion leaders, the youth and residents of Hamile to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting the community.

It further encouraged residents to adopt non-violent means of expressing their grievances and to work collectively towards restoring lasting peace and stability in the area.

Meanwhile, the government has maintained a total ban on the possession and carrying of arms, ammunition and other offensive weapons by persons within Hamile Township and its environs.

The statement warned that anyone found in possession of arms or ammunition would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
