‘Our roads will inform our decision in December 2020 elections’ – Sissalas to Government

The Sissala people will vote according to the state of their roads which was contained in a speech read on behalf of the Tumu kuoro.

The report stated:

“the state of our roads will inform the decision we make in the 2020 elections as the major trunk roads have never seen coal tar since independence,  one major reason my people gave you a resounding victory in the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections was because they had a hope to fix our roads, it was however surprising that in the declaration of the 2020 as the year of roads, the budget did not capture the Tumu Wa Tumu Bolga trunk roads ,this the Paramount Chief of Tumu Traditional Council, Kuoro Richard Babini Kanton VI said his people are not happy about and have therefore called on the government to do something about urgently”

The Paramount Chief intimated to the Vice President H.E Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia that all that he and his people “want to see now is action – no longer assurances as the road will become the deciding factor in the election 2020”.

Tumu Kuoro said this when the Vice President H.E Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia addressed a durbar of Chiefs and people at the Sissala East Constituency on September 9, 2020, as part of his 3-day tour of the Upper West region ahead of the December 2020 general elections.

Kuoro Richard Babini Kanton however commended the Vice President and President Akufo Addo for the numerous visits paid to the Sissala East Municipality and the Upper West region at large”Your numerous visits to the area is an indication of your love for my people and we appreciate it”.

The paramount chief noted that social interventions programs implemented by the NPP government including Planting for Food and Jobs, Free SHS, NHIS have helped every household in the area.

He also commended the government through the Municipal Assembly for the creation and expansion of Tumu town roads and the extension of electricity to some rural communities in the area.

The chief reminded the people not to relax in the observation of the covid-19 protocols as your government has done to contain the spread of the pandemic.
“Your work to complete the many projects and the elevation of the St clares vocational institute is commendable. In the field of agriculture, the planting for food and jobs,planting for export and rural development is visible for all to see”.

The Tumu kuoro said he made a request last year to his excellency but not much has been done about it which he repeated the call, including the revival of the Tumu cotton ginnery,providing a Municipal hospital,creation of another constituency,provision of a vocational and technical institute, upgrading of the Tumu customs barrier,providing a dam,tarring of the Tumu Leo road to facilitate business among Ghana’s northern neighbors of Burkinafaso among others and hope the government would attend to request.

“Ahead of the elections 2020 he reminded politicians that we have just one Ghana and therefore be guided by our utterances to remaining peace”.

Responding to the concerns,the Vice President HE Dr Mahamud Bawumia said “our presence here signifies our continuous love and care for the people of the Sissala East”.
“This years electionhe said ” is a straight choice between Nana Akufo-Addo and John Mahama and thankfully you have experienced both and urged the people to retain Akuffo Addo to get more of the good governance.

The Vice President accused the previous government of mismanaging the economy which led it not been to able to pay atrention to critical areas of the economy saying we were able to do new programs including Free Senior high school, Nabco,paying teacher trainee allowance due to how efficient we managed the economy.

The Vice President said the issue of the roads has always been clear to the government and noted ” the message on roads it’s very clear and we will get on it to make the Sissala people happy”.He thanked the member of parliament Mr Ridwan Abass for his declaration to rally behind the parliamentary candidate, Amidu Chinnia Issahaku to do four more for Nana”
