Conspiracy, Hypocrisy & Battle for Supremacy cause of Hajia Humu’s Defeat – Lukman

NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Wa Central, Hajia Humu Awudu

The 2020 presidential and parliamentary election will go down in history as the election that presented a unique test to Ghana’s democratic credentials. The outcome of election 2020, most especially the Parliamentary elections in the Upper West Region is not surprising as many including my outfit have predicted the NPP can only win three seats. There was a general disconnect with party structure; internal rankling, and unfulfilled promises.
Nonetheless, the Wa central Parliamentary race appears to be very keen and a lot of people had developed much interest. Largely because of  Hajia Humu Awudu has rejuvenated the political atmosphere and had schooled our ‘sleep watching’ MP (Dr. Alhaji Rashid Pelpuo) on the real responsibility of what an MP does.

Hajia Humu Awudu had empowered the youth, stood for women, and became a voice for the voiceless. Her campaign approach has sent a lot of shivers to the camp of the NDC who only but to respond with propaganda, name-calling and sabotaged.
Undoubtedly, the Wa Central Constituency was set for a new dawn and Hajia Humu Awudu was on verge of becoming the first female MP-elect for the Wa central on the ticket of NPP. Can you imagine the number of young people that would have been empowered under her tenure? While all was set for victory, some key figures of the party had already convened a meeting to conspired against her bid to rise to parliament. How can one succeed in an election when the kingmakers of your party are against you? The conspiracy theory that was designed in three forms accounted significantly for the defeat.
Firstly, some Regional and Constituency executives (names withheld) had met in a pro- NDC hotel to campaign skirt and blouse.
Secondly, they were religious sectorial meeting to save their image as rival groups will call them out in an even that the NDC Candidate loses. Thirdly, the opposition NDC had activated traditional Link’s to canvass for support, while the NPP are busy sabotaging their candidate and focusing on amassing party resources for campaign activities.
Again, there were too many Hippocratic tendencies within the NPP circles in the Wa Central. some so-called party sympathizers had gone outside the Constituency to register or have transferred their votes outside the Constituency. More so, a lot of key party figures who had gotten an appointment to head other decentralized department or government agency were Hypocritically campaigning against her candidature.
It must also be noted that some leading figures are feeling insignificant considering the social capital of Hon. Hajia Humu Awudu. What could be termed the battle for Supremacy was a key factor. A lot of people were not happy with Hon. Hajia Humu Awudu’s connection and cordial relationship with Jubilee’s house and so giving her additional power to consolidate her influence are what they never want to hear.
It must be noted that the vote gathered by Hajia Humu Awudu as against the presidential candidate is an indication Wa central remains a stronghold of the NDC but Hajia Humu Awudu Development miracle was the change factor.
It is time to call a spade a spade; the youth of Wa central must not pay evil with evil by generalizing all party stalwarts, and going after their properties.
They must remain calm and follow due process to axed the wicked and selfish party leaders. It is however unpardonable to still dinned with such stalwarts at the same party. It must be appreciated that as human beings, we all do have our weaknesses, nonetheless no matter how Hajia Humu Awudu might have wrong these NPP kingmakers, the thinking of the party first must be their priority.
Hajia Humu Awudu might have lost the Parliamentary seat, she has however groomed and empowered hundreds of Hajia Humu’s and her name has already been immortalized in Wa Central.
What the NPP must do to redeem their image is to get an independent committee to investigate and report on the happenings of the party on circumstances that prevent the party from winning the Wa Central seat when all the signs were clear.
The party must chart a new path with fresh leadership and so early delegates Congress will reposition the party.
It must also be noted that the NPP in Wa Central must not allow people who got party influence appointments such as the head of agencies or department to focused on their self-interest; rather a sense of nationalism and party service.
The party must not reward failed aspirants with an appointment within the Constituency since it tends to breed rivalry and rancor. It is time for party delegates not to vote for self-serving leader’s
Let me be emphatic that, the NPP had a clear chance to snack the seat in 2016 and 2020, but they failed to capitalize on it. So if the party did not focus and sanitize the elephant fraternity; 2024 is not secured. In the event the NDC file “a goat ” from the popular fadama market in Wa, the animal will snack victory for the party, unless the right orientation; party cohesion and unity of purpose prevailed in the NPP’s camp.
The government must however acknowledge the contributions of  Hajia Humu Awudu to the party road to victory in the presidential election considering the votes Nana ADDO got in the Wa Central and get her into government. She is a mentor; a developer and a modern leader.
Hajia Humu Awudu you have done what others could not do in 16 years; your contributions to the party politics confirm the purpose of Allah creating a woman. Your constituents find favour in you and so do not turn your back to them. You only found yourself in a place where there are a lot of wrong people.
