There is considerable controversy surrounding the commissioning of the Tendoma electricity project yesterday.
The project was officially commissioned at approximately 7:00 p.m on . However, shortly after the Regional Minister, the Member of Parliament, and the District Chief Executive (DCE) departed, the contractor reportedly returned and switched off the entire system.

Adding to the growing concerns, the Wa West DCE Hon. Richard Wulo has indicated that the contractor intends to return and replace all the prepaid meters with postpaid meters. According to the explanation given, the contractor believes that many residents may struggle to regularly purchase prepaid electricity credit. This decision, however, appears to be contrary to the wishes and preferences of many members of the community.

As things stand, residents remain uncertain about the future of the project and what the next steps will be. The community is seeking clarity from the relevant authorities regarding the status of the electricity connection, the fate of the installed meters, and when a permanent and reliable power supply will finally be made available.

After years of anticipation and sacrifice, the people of Tendoma deserve transparency, clear communication, and a resolution that reflects the interests of the community.

Notably, Tendoma’s electricity project has been a long-standing issue, with community members previously expressing frustration over delays in meter installation and connection to the national grid.
