The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, on Saturday officially launched the construction of a state-of-the-art conference hall at the Wa Naa’s Palace, marking a significant milestone in the region’s development.
The project, which is being financed through private resource mobilization led by the Speaker and his team, represents the first phase of the ambitious Shea Park Industrial Resource Hub initiative.

The new conference facility is designed to serve as a modern and dignified venue for the Wa Naa and other traditional authorities to host visitors, investors, and important engagements. Addressing chiefs, opinion leaders, and residents during the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Bagbin emphasized that the project aligns with a broader vision to transform Wa into a regional hub for investment and tourism.
He highlighted the importance of providing suitable infrastructure to facilitate meaningful interactions between investors and traditional leaders, noting that such facilities would foster economic growth and cultural exchange. The Speaker also assured stakeholders that the construction would respect the historical significance of the palace, maintaining its original Sudanese architectural style. He stated that the project team was working closely with preservation experts to ensure compliance with UNESCO World Heritage criteria, as the palace is currently under consideration for this prestigious recognition.
Representing the Overlord of the Waala State, Jinpenhi Naa Kadri Ibrahim expressed gratitude for the initiative, describing it as a “milestone in the development of Waala.” He remarked that the conference hall would enhance the capacity of the palace to host a wide range of traditional, social, cultural, political, and developmental events for generations to come.
The Waala State leadership commended the Speaker’s contribution, viewing the project as a significant step toward boosting regional development and strengthening cultural heritage. As construction progresses, the initiative is expected to elevate Wa’s profile as a vibrant center for tradition, diplomacy, and economic activity.
