The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has honoured its oldest female pensioner, Ima Zenabu Dagomba in Wa, recognising her remarkable legacy of service and commitment to retirement planning.

Born on July 1, 1926, Ima Zenabu retired on January 31, 1992, and joined the SSNIT pension payroll in March 1993. She has received pension benefits continuously for 33 years and four months, making her the longest-serving female SSNIT pensioner in Ghana.

Speaking at the celebration in Wa, Mr. Kpakpa Quatey, the Tamale Area Manager of SSNIT, described the centenarian as a pioneer and an inspiration whose life exemplifies the importance of disciplined contributions towards a secure and dignified retirement.

Mr. Quartey noted that her continued relationship with the Scheme more than three decades after retirement is a testament to the value of long-term social security.

SSNIT also used the occasion to encourage self-employed persons, traders, farmers and workers in both the formal and informal sectors to enrol in the Scheme, stressing that retirement security begins with consistent contributions during one’s working life.

The Trust reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of pensioners, describing them as the foundation upon which today’s workforce continues to build, and called on the public to continue promoting the benefits of the national pension scheme.

Responding to the honour, Ima Zenabu Dagomba expressed her profound gratitude to the management of SSNIT for celebrating her as Ghana’s oldest female SSNIT pensioner on her 100th birthday.

She thanked the Trust for the recognition and the support it has extended to her throughout her retirement.

The ceremony was attended by executives of the National Pensioners Association in the Upper West Region, SSNIT management and staff, family members, and traditional leaders.
