There are several indicators pointing to the fact that some non citizens Within the Upper West Region possess Ghana Cards illegally, recently there were some grapevine leaks that some Officers of NIA took Foreigners to Gwollu to register them for Ghana Cards at a fee, a Development we are investigating.

The Ghana Card is so special lately because without it, one cannot use a Ghanaian sim card, Hold a bank Account or Engage in some business transactions, the Non citizen id card is equally expensive going for averagely $100 with limitations including not being able to get a Bank Account, own properties etc because it lasts for 90 days per the ECOWAS Laws.

In Upper West Region for instance, Upper West Media Team has uncovered several factors pointing to the fact that Foreigners are in Possession of Citizenship ID cards contrary to the Laws.

1. Buying and Registering New Motorbikes: per confirmations we had from ASP Ibn Yussif Duranaah, Upper West Regional PRO of GIS, he indicated it is impossible for a foreigner to own and use a motorcycle in Ghana because the foreigner needs a Ghana Card, not a non citizen Card to be able to Register the Motorbike with the DVLA.
2. Foreigners Owning Business Certificates from the Various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the Region is a clear Indication that Foreigners have Ghana Cards Illegally and Officers that have Registered and issued such cards should be prosecuted. Without a Ghana Card one cannot own and Operate a Retail Business in Upper West Region.
3. Foreigners Own Leased Lands and Have Houses, How do these foreigners get the lease Documents from the Lands Commission if they have no Ghana Card, that’s the clear prove.
4. Foreigners Own MTN And Vodafone Merchant Sim Cards they use for MoMo Transactions at their shops with their names clearly documented on such sim cards, without a Business Certificate you can’t own a merchant sim card and without a Ghana Card you can’t own a Business Certificate so it’s cyclical.
5. Renting an Accommodation for more than 3 months is a sign an individual holds valid documents to stay in the country including a Ghana Card, it’s illegal to rent a house to a foreigner without visa or Ghana Card for more than 3 months(90 days)
