The Upper West Regional Police Command wishes to inform the general public that a highway robbery attempt on the Wa–Nyoli Highway was successfully foiled in the early hours of Thursday, November 6, 2025.
At approximately 2:00 a.m., a police patrol team intervened and prevented an armed robbery operation between the Kongolmo and Tanina communities. The suspected robbers, numbering four (4), had concealed themselves within the surrounding vegetation and opened fire on two SsangYong mini vans travelling toward Wa, and diverted the vehicles to a nearby bush.
Upon hearing the gunfire, the patrol team swiftly advanced to the scene and came under sporadic fire from the assailants. Exercising precision and professionalism, the team returned fire, forcing the robbers to retreat into the bush. No casualties were recorded during the exchange.
Thanks to the bravery, prompt response, and coordinated action of the police personnel, all passengers and their vehicles were rescued unharmed. The team subsequently escorted them safely to Wa.
The Command wishes to remind all drivers and transport operators to strictly adhere to police escort procedures on the various highways. These security arrangements are designed for their safety.
This successful operation underscores the effectiveness of the Regional Command’s enhanced rapid response strategy, which remains active along all robbery-prone corridors within the region.
The Command assures the public of its continuous commitment to ensuring safety and security for all in the region.
